"I didn't realize we would feel like a family."

'After going through orientation and the support from the team at the airport, I feel that it's a family and that we share the same vision and have love for the autism community and everyone involved. '

- Araceli, BCBA®, USA

"It was exactly what I needed."

'Trust the process was really hard to hear during the process. But I didn't need the information, I was just ready to know how it would go...  It was an awesome, challenging experience.'

- Caitlin, SLP, USA

"I'm now standing up for what I want."

'I started to ask myself, how much more I am capable of than what I am allowing myself to do? I came home ready to start the business I've been telling myself I'm not ready for... now I am.'

- Alexis, Sibling Advocate, USA

"Everything I do with GAP strengthens my sense of self and makes me feel more at ease with my differences, knowing everyone has some."

As an autistic self-advocate, passionate about bringing my experience to other people, living in a highly diverse city, and finding some of my greatest joy in traveling, I’ve found no other organization that unites these special interests and the skills I have like Global Autism Project. Their commitment to autistic representation in projects as well as outreach makes them live up to their name.

FAQs

Is Action Abroad different from SkillCorps®?
Yes. Action Abroad is an Action Behavior Centers internal program. This program is accessible through Action Behavior Centers acceptance of your Action Abroad application and provides additional support to benefiting Action Behavior Centers teammates. Teammates can only be accepted into Action Abroad if they are also accepted into SkillCorps®. Global Autism Project’s SkillCorps® program is run entirely by the Global Autism Project team.

To learn more about SkillCorps® CLICK HERE.

How do I apply for Action Abroad?
All Action Behavior Centers teammates who apply for SkillCorps® should apply through the Action Behavior Centers portal on the SkillCorps® Application. When applying through the Action Behavior Centers portal for SkillCorps® your application to Action Abroad will be automatically submitted. Action Behavior Centers teammates can apply above.
If I am accepted into SkillCorps® does that mean I am guaranteed to receive the Action Abroad Sponsorship?
No. As an Action Behavior Centers teammate you can be selected to participate in SkillCorps® without being accepted to receive the Action Abroad Sponsorship. If you do not receive the Action Abroad Sponsorship you may still participate in SkillCorps as normal - you will simply not receive the additional benefits associated with Action Abroad.
When can I expect to hear back regarding my acceptance into Action Abroad?
Acceptance emails to Action Abroad will be sent alongside SkillCorps® acceptance emails. If you have questions regarding your status in the Action Abroad program you may reach out to actionabroad@actionbehavior.com.
If I am accepted to SkillCorps® but not Action Abroad am I able to refuse my acceptance to SkillCorps®?
Yes. Applying to SkillCorps® and Action Abroad does not necessitate your acceptance into either program. You are permitted to refuse your acceptance to SkillCorps® at the time of your acceptance without penalty should you choose to do so.
If I am not accepted into Action Abroad am I permitted to defer my SkillCorps® acceptance and apply for Action Abroad and SkillCorps® again the following year?
SkillCorps® may approve deferral requests on a case-by-case basis. All SkillCorps® deferrals will be managed solely by the Global Autism Project’s SkillCorps® program managers. Action Behavior Centers will not be involved in approving or denying these deferrals. If you are granted a SkillCorps® deferral but were also accepted into Action Abroad for the same program, your Action Abroad acceptance cannot be deferred. Additionally, Action Abroad sponsorship benefits are not transferable to future years. You must reapply for sponsorship each year you plan to participate.
What if I am no longer able to attend my SkillCorps® trip as an Action Abroad Sponsored Teammate - what will happen to my PTO and Flight credits?

It is your responsibility to inform the Action Abroad team of your inability to participate in your SkillCorps trip as soon as you are aware of this development.

  • If the Action Abroad team is made aware of your inability to complete your SkillCorps® trip prior to your PTO and Flight credits being awarded then no credits will be awarded and no additional action is required.
  • If the Action Abroad team is made aware of your inability to complete your SkillCorps® trip after your PTO and Flight credits are awarded but before they are utilized then your credits will be revoked and no additional action is required.
  • If the Action Abroad team is made aware of your inability to complete your SkillCorps® trip after your PTO and Flight credits are spent then it is your responsibility to cancel your flight. If your flight cannot be canceled then the cost of the flight will be reimbursed to Action Behavior Centers through your next paycheck. In the case of PTO being utilized without authorization disciplinary action may be taken.
Will Action Behavior Centers provide donations to Action Abroad Sponsored Teammates as a part of the benefits?
In 2026, Action Behavior Centers will match up to $500 in funds raised by Action Abroad Sponsored Teammates during the 10-day December Sprint. Action Behavior Centers does not guarantee any monetary donations as a part of the Action Abroad program on any recurring basis.
What will happen to the funds I have already raised if I determine I need to leave SkillCorps® part way through fundraising and cannot complete my program?
  • If you need to postpone your SkillCorps® trip, you should work with the SkillCorps® team to determine the next steps. In some cases, funds may be deferred and applied toward your fundraising goals for a future program. The ability to defer funds is determined on a case-by-case basis by the SkillCorps® team.
  • If you choose to leave the SkillCorps program without deferring, any funds raised up to that point will remain with Global Autism Project. These funds cannot be applied to future fundraising goals if you decide to reapply and participate in SkillCorps® at a later time.
  • These standards will also apply to any matched funds that Action Behavior Centers provided during your fundraising.
What will happen to my Action Abroad status if I leave Action Behavior Centers?
Your participation in Action Abroad depends on your active employment with Action Behavior Centers. If your employment at Action Behavior Centers ends for any reason, your status as a Sponsored Teammate with Action Abroad will also end immediately. As a result, you will no longer have access to any benefits previously associated with the program, and if program-related expenses cannot be reversed or recovered, you may be responsible for repaying those funds.
Are there any reasons why I may lose my Action Abroad status while still employed at Action Behavior Centers?

To receive and maintain the benefits of an Action Abroad sponsorship, teammates must remain in good standing for the duration of their participation. Good standing is required at each key stage (application, acceptance, sprint match, and trip) to receive and maintain sponsorship. Key stages are as follows:

  • Application - teammates must be in good standing at time of application to be considered eligible for Action Abroad
  • Acceptance - teammates must be in good standing to be considered for acceptance into the program
  • Sprint Match - teammates must be in good standing to be eligible to receive Action Behavior Centers match of $500 during the Action Behavior Centers Sprint
  • Trip - teammates must be in good standing to be eligible to participate in the trip and receive funds for booking NYC travel
  • Failure to maintain good standing at any stage may result in loss of sponsorship and associated benefits.
