SOREM and Global Autism Project are currently working on developing an early intervention program at SOREM, in addition to a university partnership in which students in ABA programs could be placed at SOREM to complete their clinical training.

SOREM and Global Autism Project are currently working on developing data implementation systems in both autism classrooms. Additionally, a research project is underway to collect data about teacher training at SOREM in positive reinforcement.

Global Autism Project’s next SkillCorps training trip is scheduled for December, 2013. SOREM and Global Autism Project will be conducting a community workshop called “Teaching Independence Throughout the Lifespan: From Early Intervention to Vocational Skills in Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders” Click Here to read the press release.


FROM THE FIELD—In Their Own Words

“…the only material that I contributed that day was tape, green post-it notes, empty water bottles, and a series of sample activities suggestions.

The teachers had requested ideas for more activities for their students, but did not have time to make them during the week. I had a ton of ideas, but for the most sustainable approach I did not want to make the activities or provide the materials FOR them. So we all ventured in on a Saturday and pooled our resources and time to make some pretty fantastic activities!

And you know what the best part of the entire morning was? Watching all of the teachers interact with each other, learn from each other, and brainstorm with one another. At one point, Carmen and I sat back and watched as each teacher was passionately working on a task for their given student, and as one taped, the other teacher cut. The room was filled with laughter, enthusiasm, and a sense of empowerment and accomplishment – it was incredible!”
